Who is the Dagda? | ||||||
|
The Dagda is the Father God of Celtic mythology. Powerful and mighty, the Dagda is the deity of Life and Death, God of Magic and God of Time. His magical harp is made from living oak, and will fly to him when called. As the harp is played, the seasons change, but it can only play three types of music: the music of joy, the music of sorrow and the music of dreaming. The Dagda has great wisdom, being father-figure to his people and protector of crops. His cauldron is always full, providing unlimited food and nourishment, and his own lusty appetites for food and sexual gratification symbolise fertility and abundance. The Dagda is master of all arts and knowledge, but tale has it that he is quick to anger and mighty in revenge, and that his hefty club can kill nine men with a single blow. But the Dagda can bestow life as well as death, and his cauldron can bring dead warriors back to life. | ||||||
